Department of CTVA: 2022-23 Scholarships and Awards Application

Note: CTVA Scholarships and Awards are open only to Department of CTVA full-time students (including Film Provisional students). The CTVA scholarship application and submission process is done entirely online. We CANNOT accept any applications or supporting files that are not submitted online.

  • The deadline to apply for all Dept. of CTVA Scholarships ancd Awards is the end of the day (11:59 pm) on Sunday, March 6, 2022. No late submissions after the deadline will be accepted. 
  • Incomplete applications that are NOT completed by the deadline will be eliminated from further consideration.
  • All Scholarship and Award applicants will be contacted via email no later than WED April 13, 2022 regarding the status of your application.
  • All Scholarship and Award recipients will be celebrated at our annual Scholarships and Awards Ceremony. (Note: Date, Time, and Location are still pending.)
  • Unless otherwise specified, all scholarships and awards are for the next academic year. Scholarships and awards of $1,000 or more will be divided between the Fall and Spring semesters, unless the recipient is graduating in the Fall semester. For awards given to graduating seniors, the funds should be processed by June 30th. All other Scholarship and Award funds will be disbursed to each student's CSUN account by the end of August.
  • When you complete the online "APPLICANT INFORMATION FORM", you will be required to upload a current PDF copy of your Degree Progress Report (DPR), a current resume, JPEG photo, and a brief 1-2 paragraph bio.
  • "Financial Needs-Based" Scholarships and Awards require demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All applicants for Financial Needs-Based scholarships and awards MUST have a FAFSA on file with the CSUN Financial Aid Office. Recipients will be pre-qualified by the CSUN Financial Aid Office and will NOT have their financial aid reduced unless the scholarship or award amount exceeds your total calculated financial need.

In order to be considered for any individual CTVA Scholarships and Awards, you MUST:

  • Complete the online "Applicant Information Form" with ALL required attachments.
  • Upload all required attachments for the scholarship(s) and award(s) for which you are applying. You can apply for any and all scholarships and awards that you qualify for. Please do NOT submit to the same scholarship category more than once. 
  • Read ALL instructions and make sure that you fit the scholarship/award qualifications before applying. Any applicants who do NOT meet the qualifications will be eliminated from further consideration.

  • Freshman (0-30 Units completed at the time of application, excluding units in progress)
  • Sophomore (30-60 Units completed at the time of application, excluding units in progress)
  • Junior (60-90 Units completed at the time of application, excluding units in progress)
  • Senior (90 units or more completed at the time of application, excluding units in progress)

Note: In determining whether you qualify for a particular scholarship, units that are currently "in progress" can NOT be used towards your unit total. The deadline to submit the "Applicant Information Form" and upload the required attachments for the awards and scholarships for which you are applying is 11:59 pm on March 6, 2022. After this date, no other submissions will be accepted. Failure to submit all required materials by the deadline will cause your application to be excluded from scholarship/award consideration.Before applying for any individual scholarships, pleased complete the "Applicant Information Form" first. Note that you will be required to setup a FREE Submittable.com "User Account" before you can access the "Applicant Information Form". This account can be used to save, login, and complete/view a previously saved online application. As an alternative login method, you can use your Facebook account login name and password (instead of creating a FREE Submittable.com account).

The donor, Formosa Group (see info below), will work with the awarded student to mentor them over the year they receive the scholarship with leading professionals in the industry.


Financial Needs-Based Scholarship: NO


Class Level: Applicant must be a CTVA undergraduate continuing FULL-TIME student with a concentration in post-production sound. (ie. NOT graduating in Spring or Fall 2022)
To be considered for this scholarship, student MUST:
1. Have a proven interest in Post-Production Sound
2. Be a member of an under-represented community

Other factors that may be considered:
- Scholastic Achievement (minimum of 3.0 grade point average)


Sound with Vision SCHOLARSHIP/MENTORSHIP 2022

Summary:

Formosa Group, industry’s leading creative innovator in post-production sound, is offering a scholarship/mentorship for the 2022 Spring semester. We are looking for candidates that have a passion for learning more about sound and are interested in pursuing a career in the industry.

This program incorporates learning opportunities including access to top tier creative talent and executives in the sound industry, with the possibility of incorporating in-person training at our Los Angeles based facilities.  The curriculum will encompass three divisions: Features, Broadcast, and Interactive. This allows for a broad range of exposure and a better overall comprehension of the sound process from start to finish.

The program requires a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week, for a duration of 12-weeks.

(1) $1,200 Scholarship for Film Production Option students only

Financial Needs-Based Scholarship: No



Class Level:

  • Must be a full-time continuing Film Production Option undergraduate student (not graduating in Spring or Fall 2022). 


Note: Film Provisional students who have not been accepted into the Film Production Option through the portfolio process can NOT be considered for this scholarship.

Academic Achievement

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for all course work taken at CSUN.


Area of Emphasis


  • Department of CTVA Film Production Option student.



  • Preference will be given to students displaying leadership skills.


Procedure for Student Application


1. Complete the "Applicant Information Form" available (online).


2. Applicants must upload a brief (500-750 word) essay addressing the following statement: "Describe your unique leadership qualities and skills and discuss how they apply to your chosen discipline within film production". (MS-Word or PDF).


3. The deadline to submit the "Applicant Information Form" and upload the required attachments for this scholarship is 11:59 pm on Sunday March 6, 2022. After this date, no other submissions will be accepted. Failure to submit all required materials by the deadline will cause your application to be excluded from scholarship consideration.





(6) $8,000 Scholarships* (2 for Film Production Option students, 2 for Television Production Option students, and 2 for MFA Screenwriting students)

Financial Needs-Based Scholarship: Yes

* This is a financial needs-based scholarship that requires demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All applicants for this scholarship MUST have a FAFSA on file with the CSUN Financial Aid Office. Recipients of this scholarship will be pre-qualified by the CSUN Financial Aid Office and will NOT have their financial aid reduced unless the scholarship amount exceeds your total calculated financial need. Preference will be given to students from traditionally under-represented populations, and to students with demonstrated potential for success.

Note: This $8,000 scholarship will disbursed as two (2) separate $4,000 payments just prior to the start of each Fall and Spring semester. Other entertainment industry opportunities are included as part of this program.

Class Level:

  • Must be an undergraduate student who has been admitted and enrolled in the Department of CTVA in either the Film Production Option or Television Production Option (Junior or Senior - NOT graduating in Spring or Fall 2022) OR a graduate in the Screenwriting Option 


Academic Achievement

  • Undergraduate students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA for all course work taken at CSUN.


Area of Emphasis

  • Department of CTVA student who has been accepted into the Film Production Option through the portfolio process.

  •  Department of CTVA student in the Television Production Option or Screenwriting Option who will be entering their junior or senior year in the next Fall semester.



  • The scholarship may be renewable for up to three (3) years for undergraduate students, provided they are making satisfactory progress toward their degree objective, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate continued financial need.

3. Applicants must upload a statement of purpose regarding your anticipated role in the entertainment industry, including your potential for success. (MS-Word or PDF)


4. The deadline to submit the "Applicant Information Form" and upload the required attachments for this scholarship is 11:59 pm on Sunday March 6, 2022. After this date, no other submissions will be accepted. Failure to submit all required materials by the deadline will cause your application to be excluded from scholarship consideration.




$7,000 (Film, Television or Emerging Media options only)

Awarded to one rising SENIOR with FINANCIAL NEED for the following academic year ($3,500 per semester) MUST NOT be graduating in Spring '22 OR Fall '22. 


Financial Needs-Based Scholarship: Yes * This is a financial needs-based scholarship that requires demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All applicants for this scholarship MUST have a FAFSA on file with the CSUN Financial Aid Office. Recipients of this scholarship will be pre-qualified by the CSUN Financial Aid Office and will NOT have their financial aid reduced unless the scholarship amount exceeds your total calculated financial need.

Class Level: Applicant must be a CTVA SENIOR undergraduate continuing student .(ie. NOT graduating in Spring or Fall 2022)


To be considered for this scholarship, student MUST:


1. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0


2. Be from one of the production options;  Film, TV, or Emerging Media


3. Be a student from a traditionally underserved community within the entertainment industry

4. Submit a mission statement (1-2 page essay) on how their work brings a new perspective to storytelling in the entertainment industry and how their pursuit of a career in production will help make the industry more inclusive
